Franchising as a strategy of International Growth


Joad Lopez will talk about his experience using the franchise strategy as a vehicle of international growth for his company eyescream and friends. He will talk about franchising in general, the franchise model, and the key tenets of business format franchising. Joad will bring forward real life practical and business experiences as examples on how to approach, evaluate, and effectively respond to all aspects and challenges of managing in a franchise environment.



Joan is an entrepreneur, a business lecturer and consultant, and also an entrepreneurial business mentor. Most notably, Joad has served as CEO of the award winning ice cream brand, eyescream and friends since its launch in 2011 until 2019. He holds a BBA degree from EU Business School and an International MBA degree from EADA Business School in Barcelona. He also holds a Georgetown University postgraduate degree in Franchise Management. Joad actively lectures and speaks about hospitality management, sustainable business development and entrepreneurship at various top ranked business schools in Barcelona, and also serves as a mentor at various incubator programs in Barcelona. Originally from Curacao, Joad Lopez is a Dutch citizen, married with three children, and speaks 4 languages and has lived in the United States of America, the Netherlands, Japan, Cuba, and Spain. He is now working on his next entrepreneurial journey, which he expects to launch in the second half of 2022.
